Sensex ended 128.33 points higher at 74,611.11, whereas Nifty concluded 43.35 points up at 22,648.20.
BPCL, Power Grid Corporation, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors were among the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Consumer, Axis Bank and HDFC Life.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 188.50 points lower at 74,482.78, whereas Nifty concluded 38.55 points down at 22,604.85.
