Mumbai: The benchmark indices ended lower today amid a surge in oil prices due to tension in the Middle East.
Sensex ended 483.24 points down at 65,512.39, whereas Nifty concluded 141.15 points lower at 19,512.35.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 364.06 points higher at 65,995.63, whereas Nifty concluded 107.75 points up at 19,653.50.
Biggest losers on the Nifty included Adani Ports, Hero MotoCorp, BPCL, HDFC Life and M&M, while gainers were HCL Technologies, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, TCS, Tata Consumer and HUL are among the top gainers.
Crude oil prices experienced a substantial surge on Monday, following the Israel-Hamas war that entered Day 3 with large fatalities on both sides. Brent crude, often considered the global benchmark, soared as high as about 5 per cent before some correction.
