Mumbai: Sensex closed on January 16 at 59.83 points higher at 41,932.56. Similarly, Nifty ended 12.20 points high at 12,355.50.
Eicher Motors, Nestle India, Zee Entertainment, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bharti Airtel were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers include GAIL, Bharti Infratel, NTPC, JSW Steel and Hindalco Industries.
In the previous season, Sensex closed on January 15 at 79.90 points lower at 41,872.73. Similarly, Nifty ended 19.00 points low at 12,343.30.
The rupee is trading at 70.945 against the dollar.
