The domestic benchmark indices ended higher on December 27.
Sensex ended 701.63 points up at 72,038.43, whereas Nifty concluded 213.40 points up at 21,654.75.
Indian rupee ended 16 paise lower at 83.35 per dollar versus previous close of 83.19.
The biggest gainers on the Nifty included Hindalco Industries, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel and Tata Motors, while losers were ONGC, NTPC, Adani Enterprises, UPL and Adani Ports.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 229.84 points up at 71,336.80, whereas Nifty concluded 91.95 points up at 21,441.35.
