India’s benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, traded lower on Wednesday as investors awaited clarity on upcoming U.S. tariffs.
Sensex ended 728.69 points lower at 77,288.50, whereas Nifty concluded 181.80 points down at 23,486.85.
From the Sensex basket, IndusInd Bank Ltd, HCL Technologies Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and Titan Company Ltd were the major gainers. NTPC Ltd, Tech Mahindra Ltd, Bajaj Finance Ltd, Infosys Ltd, Axis Bank Ltd and Wipro Ltd were the biggest laggards.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 32.80 points higher at 78,017.19, whereas Nifty concluded 10.30 points up at 23,668.65.
The Indian rupee closed slightly higher at 85.7050 against the US dollar after a volatile session.
