Sensex and Nifty drops for fifth straight day

Mumbai: After the IMF cut India’s growth outlook, Sensex and Nifty slipped for the fifth consecutive session on July 24.

The BSE Sensex settled 135.09 points lower at 37,847.65. Similarly, Nifty ended 59.75 points down at 11,271.30.

Asian Paints, HUL, HDFC twins, HCL Tech and ITC were among the top gainers today rising up to 3.42 per cent.

Top losers in the Sensex pack included IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp, Axis Bank, M&M, Vedanta and Maruti falling up to 3.50 per cent.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee depreciated 68.99 against the US dollar.

The global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.22 per cent higher at $63.97 per barrel.
