Shamli: Farmers threaten to organise Mahapanchayat if cane dues are not cleared on time

Shamli: Farmers convened at the Shamli Sugar Cooperative Society office to address the demand for payment of both new and outstanding sugarcane dues. Farmers coordinator, Sanjeev Shastri Lilon, announced that if the Shamli mill does not settle the full payment to the farmers by August 4, a Mahapanchayat will be held on August 5 to plan further actions, reported Amar Ujala.

The meeting was attended by Shamli mill’s Cane General Manager Baldhari Singh, Deputy General Manager Deepak Rana, Satish Balian, and Secretary of Shamli Sugar Cooperative Society Omprakash Singh. During the session, Sanjeev Shastri Lilon pressed the sugar mill officials to clear the new and old dues. The meeting, which lasted over three hours, saw Cane General Manager Baldhari Singh stating that new cane payments would be made in August. However, he could not give a satisfactory answer regarding the outstanding dues of previous season. As a result, farmers decided that if the dues were not paid by August 4, a Mahapanchayat would be organized on August 5.
