Shamli : RLD MLA Prasanna Chaudhari raised the issue of pending cane dues of Shamli, Thanabhavan, and Unn sugar mills in the state assembly, reports Live Hindustan.
Asking a question to Sugarcane Minister Laxminarayan, MLA Chaudhari said that these mills owe dues worth Rs 668 crore to the cane farmers. These mills have cleared only 38% of the cane dues so far.
Sugar mills have so far cleared cane dues up to December 20, 2022. Sugar mills in the Muzaffarnagar district owe dues worth Rs 250 crore while mills in Bagpat owe Rs 350 crore to the cane farmers, he said.
As per the rule, sugar mills should clear the cane dues of farmers within 14 days of sending their cane to the mill but why the government is not taking action on the mills that are not paying the cane dues of farmers in time, he questioned in the house.
