Shamli: Sugar mill to make cane payment within 14 days in upcoming season

Shamli: The Shamli Sugar Mill has started fulfilling its promise of clearing all outstanding payments of the farmers by August 30 following the pressure by the district administration which was a result of months of protest and demonstrations by farmers, reports Live Hindustan.

For a long time, sugarcane farmers associated with the Upper Doab Sugar Mill have been demanding their pending payments. To press their demands, the farmers organized several protests and even held a “Kisan Mahapanchayat” to warn both the district administration and the mill owners. As a result of these actions, the mill completed the payment for the current season on Friday.

Mill officials have stated that the process of acquiring the sugar mill will be completed by September 15, after which payments for the 2022-23 season will begin. The mill has applied for loans from several banks to meet these obligations, and they have committed to clearing all previous dues as promised.

Satish Balyan, the management representative, announced that in the upcoming 2024-25 crushing season, payments will be made within 14 days, in compliance with the sugarcane policy. He urged farmers to ensure their sugarcane crops do not fall over, as this could lead to economic losses due to damage by rodents. The mill is also planning to implement a sugarcane development scheme that will provide farmers with high-quality seeds, pure fertilizers, and medicines.
