Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills from the district have cleared the cane arrears of around Rs 97.44 crore ahead of the Diwali festival. The mills have cleared the pending dues of previous season from November 3 to November 10. The authorities have stated that they will clear all the pending arrears to the farmers by Thursday. The pending dues now amount to Rs 374.29 crore.
Since completion of the cane crushing, farmers are demanding their dues. They had launched agitations under the banner of the Bharatiya Kissan Union (BKU) for the pending arrears. Following the agitations, the millers assured the farmers to clear the pending dues before Diwali.
