Shamli: Sugar mills in the district are likely to close their crushing operations by May end. The mills have started closing sugarcane procurement centres as the quantity of cane is reducing day by day. Total 27 cane collection centres of Unn sugar mill and 18 centres of Thanabhavan sugar mill have been closed so far.
Last year Shamali mill had closed operations on June 12, Unn mill had closed operations on May 20 and Thanabhavan mill had closed operations on May 30.
According to the news report published in Amarujala.com, DCO Vijay Bahadur Singh said that the sugarcane crushing season will conclude one month earlier this season. Unn and Thanabhavan mill will close in the first week of May and Shamali mill will close by the end of May, he said.
