New Delhi: NCP chief Sharad Pawar has urged the sugar mills to diversify into other products like ethanol and CNG to tackle the issue of sugar glut and as well as modernise their manufacturing plants.
Speaking at an award function organised by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) he said that the sugar mills should emphasize on lowering manufacturing cost and increase efficiency to overcome losses and focus on diversification to increase income.
Pawar said, “My suggestion is to modernise the production system. We should try to come up with new technologies in process and engineering for the benefits of sugar industry and sugarcane farmers.”
Many sugar mills in India have already started ramping the ethanol production as it will help them to clear the cane dues swiftly.
