ChiniMandi, Shirol: Shirol’s Datta Mill has taken up an experiment of producing organic sugar for which farmers will be given special training towards organic cane. 15 thousand tonnes of organic cane will be crushed to produce the sugar. This experiment could be an inspiration for other mills.
Too much use of water has led to soil erosion in that area. Organic cane cultivation could be a solution to stop the erosion for better agriculture. 520 hectares area around the factory has been planted with organic cane. 60-70 tonne of production is expected per acre. Rest 15 thousand tonnes of cane from 250-275 acres will be crushed in the first phase of the upcoming crushing season.
