Pune: Sugarcane crushing season is at the final phase in Maharashtra as a majority of the sugar mill have close their cane crushing operations.
According to the state sugar commissionerate till May 11 total 184 sugar mills have closed their operations and 6 mills are still operating. They have produced 1061.18 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1011.31 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.49 per cent.
As per the commissionerate total 43 sugar mills from Solapur, 37 from Kolhapur, 26 from Nanded, 31 from Pune, 24 from Ahmednagar, 18 from Aurangabad, 3 mills from Nagpur and 2 from Amravati have closed their operations.
