Colombo: Sugar scam had not occurred as a result of reducing the import levy on sugar, said Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage. “President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will not entertain any kind of scam looting the government,” he said.
According to the media report, former speaker Karu Jayasuriya pointed out that the Committee on Public Finance and the treasury have conceded that a scam had occurred.
“The import tax was reduced after the consignment arrived on the island and was increased after it left the country,” he said.
Those responsible for this must be punished after a thorough investigation, he said.
