State-owned sugar mill halts operations due to technical glitches

Palwal, Haryana: The state-owned cooperative sugar mill, which was formally inaugurated by the Cooperative Minister on December 2, stopped operations on the very first day due to technical glitches, reports Tribune India.

The mill is targeting to crush 36 lakh quintals of cane this season with a daily crushing capacity of 22,000 quintals.

We are taking steps to address the issue and would start the mill at the earliest, said Shashi Vasundhara, managing director of the mill.
The halting of operations has led to the loss of two-day crushing which is around 44,000 quintals that would result in a delay in cane crushing operations.

Farmers have decided to launch a dharna over the technical glitches at the sugar mill, said Mahendra Singh Chauhan, leader of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha.

The sugar mill was set up in 1984 and now caters to around 400 villages in Palwal, Faridabad, Nuh and Gurugram districts. The mill was upgraded by spending around Rs 12 crore in 2019 and had crushed around 32 lakh quintals of cane during the last crushing season.
