State-wise monthly sugar quota for sale in April 2025

In a order released on March 28, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for April 2025 to 581 mills, which is lower than the quota allocated for April 2024. Additionally, the government has extended the March quota until April 10.

In April 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 25 LMT for domestic sale. For March 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23 LMT.

According to market experts, the carryforward stock is expected to be around 1 lakh tonnes. There is likely to be strong demand in the market due to the summer season and expected spike in temperatures. Last year, in April, sugar consumption was 25.80 lakh tonnes. Considering this, market sentiments are expected to remain bullish.

The government has issued new modalities for action to be taken against the non-complaint sugar mills of monthly stockholding limit orders. These modalities will be applicable from 1st April, 2025. Therefore, with a view to provide one last opportunity to the repeated violators for strict compliance of stockholding limit orders in future, the violation in of monthly stockholding limit orders in January-2025 is exempted from deduction. Government has asked all the sugar mills to adhere the compliance of this order in letter & spirit.

The process of integrating the ERP/SAP systems of sugar mills with the NSWS portal through APls is underway and the same is asked to be completed by 20th April 2024. All sugar mills have been directed to ensure development of their API modules and integrate with NSWS portal in a time bound manner and submit the monthly P-II for March-2025 through API by 15th April, 2025. Non-complaint sugar mills may not be allocated any release quota from next month.
