In a notification released on April 30, the food ministry has allocated a monthly sugar quota of 27 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for May 2024 to 572 sugar mills, which is 3 LMT higher than the quantity allocated in May 2023 (24 LMT).
In April 2024, the allocated sugar quota for domestic sale was 25 LMT.

According to market experts, sugar quota of 27 LMT will be sufficient for the domestic market due to summer demand. The market is expected to remain positive.
