State-wise monthly sugar quota for sale in May 2025

In an order released on April 29, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for May 2025 to 581 sugar mills, which is lower than the quota allocated for May 2024.

In May 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 27 LMT for domestic sale. For April 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23.5 LMT. Additionally, the government had extended the March 2024 quota until April 10.

According to market experts, there is likely to be good demand in the market due to the summer season. Last year, in May, sugar consumption was 26.10 lakh tonnes. Considering this, market sentiments are expected to remain bullish.

The process of integrating the ERP/SAP systems of sugar mills with the NSWS portal through APIs is underway and the same is asked to be completed by 20th May 2025. All sugar mills have been directed to ensure development their API modules and integrate with NSWS portal in a time bound manner and submit the monthly P-II for April-2025 through API by 10th May, 2025. Non-complaint sugar mills may not be allocated any release quota from next month.

All the sugar mills are also directed to ensure the compliance of mandatory packaging of 20% of sugar in jute bags under Jute Packaging Material (Compulsory Use in Packing Commodities) Act, 1987 and submit the information thereof in P-II proforma on NSWs portal.
