Indian equity markets witnessed a sharp decline on Tuesday, with the Sensex and Nifty posting losses due to rising US trade tensions, President Donald Trump’s tariffs, ongoing foreign fund outflows, and sluggish corporate earnings.
Sensex ended 1,018.20 points lower at 76,293.60, whereas Nifty concluded 309.80 points down at 23,071.80.
Biggest losers on the Nifty were Apollo Hospitals, Eicher Motors, Shriram Finance, Coal India, Bharat Electronics, while gainers included Adani Enterprises, Trent, Bharti Airtel, Grasim Industries.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 548.39 points lower at 77,311.80, whereas Nifty concluded 178.35 points down at 23,381.60.
Indian rupee ended 65 paise higher at 86.83 per dollar on Tuesday versus Monday’s close of 87.48.
