As worries surrounding the general elections persisted, the benchmark equity indices crashed on May 09. Sensex and Nifty tanked to their lowest levels in two months.
Sensex ended 1,062.22 points down at 72,404.17, whereas Nifty concluded 345.00 points lower at 21,957.50.
From the Sensex basket, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, HCL Technologies, State Bank of India and Infosys were the major gainers. Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, ITC, JSW Steel and NTPC were the biggest laggards.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 45.46 points lower at 73,466.39, whereas Nifty concluded with no change at 22,302.50.
