Sugar and ethanol data accuracy: Government decides to connect all sugar mills’ ERP systems with NSWS portal using APIs

The government is taking steps to ensure data accuracy related to sugar and ethanol production. To take the digital governance initiative further, the Government has decided to connect all sugar mills’ ERP systems with NSWS portal using APIs to avoid any manual data punching in order to ensure data accuracy, avoiding human errors and the elimination of redundant data.

In a communication to sugar mills, the Distribution Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) stated, “As you are aware that all operational sugar mills have successfully registered on NSWS portal and filing monthly information as per P II Proforma on the NSWS Portal only in the current season 2023-24. This has helped Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils in getting timely information about sugar and ethanol production and dispatch by mills. To take the digital governance initiative further, the Government has decided to connect all sugar mills ERP systems with NSWS portal using APIs to avoid any manual data punching in order to ensure data accuracy, avoiding human errors and the elimination of redundant data. The information sought through API will be same as in existing PII Format and no additional information is being sought through APIs.”

“In this regard, a meeting chaired by the Joint Secretary (Sugar) was held on June 5, 2024, where representatives from group sugar mills, various listed companies, and Invest India participated. During this meeting, the importance of API integration was emphasized, and it was underscored that this task must be accorded top priority. Pilot testing for API integration has already been successfully completed this week,” DFPD further added.

DFPD urged all sugar mills to prioritize this integration process and complete it within the next two months. Adhering to this timeline is critical to ensuring seamless data flow and operational efficiency across the sector.
