Sugar factory would not be privatized under any circumstances: MLA

NIZAMABAD: The Telangana government has pledged to reopen the Nizam Sugar Factory, once Asia’s largest, following a visit by Nizamabad Rural MLA R Bhupathi Reddy and District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, reported Telangana Today.

Highlighting governmental efforts, Reddy noted the formation of a sub-committee led by Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, tasked with facilitating the restoration of the Nizam Sugar Factory. The factory would not be privatized under any circumstances, he said.

Reddy appealed to farmers for their cooperation in rejuvenating the factory, stressing its significance. Echoing this sentiment, Collector Hanumanthu indicated plans for a comprehensive report reflecting farmers’ perspectives and the prevailing circumstances, slated for submission to the government within a week.

“We’ve engaged with sugarcane farmers to address concerns regarding the factory’s resurgence. Additionally, we’ve assessed the current state of affairs and devised strategies for its revival,” Hanumanthu conveyed.

Once hailed as the largest sugar factory in Asia, the facility ceased operations in 2015.
