Pune: “The sugarcane sector plays a major role in strengthening the rural economy, and the government promotes the industry. Now instead of focussing on sugar, the sector must focus on the production of by-products to come out of the financial crisis,” said Vijay Paul Sharma, chairman of Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
He was speaking at the 44th anniversary of Vasantdada Sugar Institute.
“I request the millers to work with the true farmers and address their issues. Take efforts to solve their problems. The central government is providing assistance to strengthen the sector, but farmers will also have to change the cropping pattern and use modern technology to improve yield,” he said.
