Kolkatta: Representatives from sugar industry bodies have expressed concerns about the pricing and quality of jute bags, calling on the government to set fixed rates for sugar jute bags at at the 32nd Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting in New Delhi, reported PTI.
Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) also highlighted several pressing issues at the meeting. Key industry players, including representatives from the sugar and plastic sectors, participated in the Tuesday meeting. The SAC advises the central government on mandatory jute packaging for essential commodities like food grains and sugar.
As per media report, the Jute Commissioner’s Office emphasized the need for government support to sustain the sector, which supports an estimated 40 million farmers and 3.5 lakh mill workers.
The IJMA also urged the SAC for immediate government intervention in enforcing 100 per cent reservation norms in foodgrain and sugar packaging in 2024-25.
