Roorkee, Uttarakhand: The sugarcane farmers have decided to call off their proposed protest after mill assured them of clearing cane dues.
According to the media report, the officials of Bhatiya Kisan Union held talks with Uttam Sugar Mill management in the presence of sugarcane department officials. The mill management has assured the cane growers to clear cane dues by August 5.
The farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union had written a letter to the district and sugar mill administration warning that they would go on indefinite strike from July 21 if mill fails to clear due before July 20.
Sugarcane farmers warn that if the mill administration fails to clear the arrears by August 5, we will launch an agitation from August 6.”
