Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh: IPL sugar mill, Siswa has cleared the sugarcane arrears around Rs 4.66 crore. This has relieved the farmers that were reeling under financial distress. The payment of cane arrears benefitted to the 2300 sugarcane farmers.
According to the news report published in Dainik Jagran, the mill is yet to clear Rs 21.37 crore sugarcane arrears.
Government is closely monitoring the daily cane payments by sugar mills. Also, instructions have been issued to take action against sugar mills if they fail to clear cane dues. Sugarcane farmers claim they are reeling under financial burden due to a delay in cane payments.
The lockdown imposed by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic has also affected many sugar mills across India. Mills were unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, due to which sugar stocks piled up in godown. Lack of finance has also affected the mills to clear cane arrears.
