Hapur: Sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh should not face any problem, therefore, the state government is ensuring that sugar mills commence crushing on time. Hapur sugarcane officer Omprakash Singh on Thursday has instructed mills in the district to start crushing season by October 31.
“The instructions have been issued to the mill administrations as per the rule. The Brajnathpur mill is ready for taking up crushing, and the Simbhaoli mill is taking up efforts to start crushing by October 31,” Singh said. He has also directed the mills to clear pending arrears immediately.
According to the reports, sugar mills in the state owe around 4,700 crore rupees to sugarcane farmers. Cane growers have intensified their protest for pending arrears, and in spite of multiple warnings from the government, mills failed to clear the dues. Sugarcane farmers in the state are worried as their past dues have not been cleared yet, and the new season is about to commence soon. They claim that their financial condition is worsening day-by-day as they have not received dues from mills. Farmers assert that they are unable to feed their families, nor able to pay school fees of their children.
