The Karnataka State Sugar Cane Growers Association has set a deadline to sugar factories to clear their dues within 15 days and also warned the government to face statewide agitation in case of non-payment.
Speaking to media, Association President Kurbur Shanthakumar said, “We will wait for 15 days for the cane arrears payment. If the government doesn’t come up with solutions, we will intensify our protests across the state.”
“According to the government, the pending amount is Rs 1,500 crore. Whatever it may be, it’s the government’s responsibility to get us what is due,” he further added.
Earlier Shanthakumar led the delegation to the Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to make him aware of the farmers suffering. Following which, CM assured a farmers delegation of an early resolution to some of their pending demands including early clearance of dues by sugar mills.
