Ahmednagar: Bhartiya Kisan Mahasangh warned sugar mills to pay pending sugarcane dues promptly along with 15 per cent interest on outstanding FRP. To press their demand, the organization also staged a demonstration in front of sugar’s joint director’s office in Ahmednagar city.
Maharashtra is suffering from severe drought and pending cane arrears adding woes to distress farmers.
Farmer organization claimed sugar mills have not been paying farmers for the past several months and questioned what mills did with the loan amount approved for clearing cane dues.
They alleged in spite of orders from cane commissioner office to pay FRP, sugar mills are not paying heed to the directives. Protestors urged mills to the clear the arrears at the earliest.
