Pune: Despite financial distress and dip in sugar sell due to lockdown, sugar mills in Maharashtra are clearing the cane dues. According to the media report, sugar mills from Maharashtra have paid 97 per cent of the total FRP to the sugarcane farmers. The mills have cleared FRP worth amounting to Rs 13,150 crore out of Rs 13,508 crore to the cane farmers.
Mills in Maharashtra too have ended the sugarcane crushing. Coronavirus has put sugar industry in the grim situation but despite this, mills were continuously engaged in sugarcane crushing to ensure cane growers not face any loss.
In Maharashtra, the crushing season has concluded and the mills of the State have produced 60.98 lakh tonnes of sugar, which is about 46.2 lakh tonnes less as compared to 107.20 lakh tonnes produced in 2018-19 Sugar Season.
