Pune: Sugar mills in Maharashtra have paid 82 per cent of the fair and remunerative price (FRP) to sugarcane farmers in the ongoing crushing season.
Around 189 sugar mills have participated in the cane crushing operations this season and out of these 69 mills have paid 100 per cent FRP, 21 mills have paid FRP between 80 to 99 per cent.
As per the data released by the Maharashtra Sugar Commissioner Office, the mills have crushed 236 lakh tonnes (lt) of sugarcane till December 15 and owe FRP of Rs 7,407.20 crore. The mills have so far cleared RS 6,075.23 crore to the cane farmers.
