Sugar mills in UP are now emerging as source of green energy: CM Yogi

Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are now emerging as the source of ‘green energy’, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reports Business-standard.

He was speaking at an event organized on the occasion of 120 years of the sugar industry in the state.

Addressing the gathering, he said, “UP is the largest sugar producer state in the country. Sugar mills are producing ethanol as well as oxygen apart from producing sugar. This has resulted in them transforming into “integrated sugar complexes”.”

“Till 2017, sugar mills in the state were closing down and farmers were helpless but the trend has been reversed since we came to power,” he said.

“We have ensured to transfer Rs 1 lakh 97 thousand crores to the sugarcane farmers through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) in the last six years,” said Yogi.

As many as 100 sugar mills are operating in the state and they are paying farmers their dues within 10 days of purchase which is a big change in the state, he said.
