Lucknow: Sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh is at the final stage and the government is taking steps to ensure that the mills clear cane bills of farmers in time.
According to the government data, the mills till May 14 have paid cane payment of Rs 24,708.61 crore to the farmers which is 73.34 per cent of the total dues for the ongoing crushing season.
The mills have cleared almost 100 per cent of cane dues of the last crushing season and the government is taking steps to ensure that the mills expedite cane payment in the ongoing season.
Sugar production in UP has reached 100 lakh tonnes which is lower compared to the preceding season. The mills have till May 14, 2022, produced 101.14 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 999.75 lakh tonnes of cane. In the last season, the mills had produced 110.59 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1027.50 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the same period.
