New Delhi: Sugar mills in the country are yet to pay cane dues worth Rs 4,445 crore of the 2020-21 crushing season.
Minister of State for Food Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti tabled the information regarding pending cane dues before Lok Sabha on Wednesday. As per the data, Uttar Pradesh leads in the country with maximum pending cane arrears.
According to the news agency PTI, sugar mills in the country were supposed to pay Rs 92,804 crore during the 2020-21 season and they have paid Rs 88,359 crore to the farmers so far. The mills are yet to clear dues worth Rs 4,445 crore. Maximum cane dues are from sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh which amount to Rs 3,752 crore.
