According to the industry estimates, sugar output in Maharashtra is likely to 102 lakh tonnes for the 2020-21 crushing season as against the earlier estimate of 95 lakh tonnes by the sugar commissionerate.
As per a news report published in Indianexpress.com, Bhairavnath B Thombare, president of West Indian Sugar Mills Association (WISMA) said they arrived at the 102 lakh tonnes figure after deliberation on Thursday. He said, “The mills in Solapur have closed operations and more mills will follow soon. The mills in Ahmednagar and Marathwada will end operations in March. Mills in Sangli, Satara, Pune and Kolhapur will end their season by end of April.”
