Several sugar mills in the country have closed their operations but in Maharashtra, the majority of mills are operating to date.
In the current season, 197 mills have participated in the crushing operation. The mills in the state have produced 980.08 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 953.94 lakh tonne cane till March 1, 2022, with a recovery rate of 10.27 per cent.
Kolhapur division is leading in the state with maximum sugar production. The mills here have produced 259.70 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 222.35 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.68 per cent.
Kolhapur is also ahead in terms of sugar recovery rate.
Maximum sugar mills, 46, are operating in the Solapur division. The mills have produced 207.73 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 224.06 lakh tonne sugarcane till March 1, 2022.
