Amid the grim situation in the domestic sugar industry, the sugar producers in the Philippines sought an audit on Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).
The Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations, Inc. (CONFED) has requested the Department of Agriculture for the audit to ensure that the SRA performs its duties efficiently.
In a statement, CONFED said that considering current challenges, it is necessary to examine the performance of SRA to serve the industry better. CONFED also urged the SRA to establish a mechanism for sugar allocation and import-export policy.
Recently, sugar industry questioned the recent sugar output forecast by SRA. The sector alleges that SRA has been overestimating production for the past four years and asked to stop the same.
