Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is at the final stage with mills speeding up the operations. As per the data released by the Sugar commissionerate, a total of 19 sugar mills have concluded the season till March 21, 2022, which include 14 from Kolhapur, three from Solapur, one from Nagpur, and one from Aurangabad district.
Total 197 sugar mills, including 99 private mills and 98 cooperative mills, were operating in the state this season and they have produced 1123.55 lakh quintal (112 lakh tonne) sugar by crushing 1084.42 lakh tonnes sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.36 per cent.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), the sugar production estimate in Maharashtra has been increased to 126 lakh tonnes as against the earlier estimate of 117 lakh tonne for the 2021-22 season (after considering diversion for ethanol production).
