Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra is in the final phase with the majority of sugar mills operating smoothly.
According to the data released by the Sugar commissionerate, 197 sugar mills, including 98 cooperative mills and 99 private mills, are operating in the state. The mills have produced 852.75 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 837.37 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.18 per cent.
Kolhapur division has reported maximum sugar production in the state. The mills in the Kolhapur division have produced 229.56 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 197.57 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.62 per cent.
Maximum sugar mills are operating in the Solapur division (46). The mills have produced 181.61 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 198.23 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till February 14, 2022.
