Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra is in the last leg and mills are likely to start closing crushing operations soon.
According to the sugar commissionerate, a total of 197 sugar mills, including 98 cooperative mills and 99 private mills, have produced 879.10 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 860.98 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.21 per cent till February 17.
Kolhapur division is leading in the state in terms of sugar production and the mills in the division have produced 236.29 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 202.92 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.64 per cent.
Maximum sugar mills (46) are operating in the Solapur division and they have produced 186.94 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 203.48 lakh tonne cane till February 17.
