Islamabad: Sugar production in January 2025 has seen a noticeable increase compared to December 2024, according to the Sugar Advisory Board. Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a key meeting to review the latest sugarcane crop estimates and outline strategies to meet the country’s sugar needs for the 2024-25 season.
The meeting focused on finding ways to improve production, maintain stable prices, and ensure the steady growth of the sugar industry. Minister Hussain encouraged sugar mill owners to invest in research to enhance production capabilities and secure long-term progress for the sector.
Highlighting the importance of fair treatment for farmers, he stressed that they must receive proper compensation to promote more sugarcane farming. He also announced plans to work with provincial governments to take strict action against hoarding, ensuring consumers have easy access to sugar.
“The government is fully committed to keeping the prices of essential goods stable and protecting consumers through continuous efforts,” he stated.
The meeting included officials, sugar mill owners, and other industry stakeholders, who shared practical suggestions for boosting sugarcane production and strengthening the sugar industry. The board’s discussions aim to benefit farmers, increase production, and stabilise the sugar market.
