Sugar production in Uttar Pradesh has been reported lower this year compared to the previous season but the government is ensuring that mills clear pending dues to the farmers.
According to the data released by the state government, sugar mills have produced 93.15 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 921.25 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till April 13, 2022. At the same time, mills have cleared Rs 21426.70 crore cane dues which is 72 per cent of total dues.
UP sugar mills in the last season had produced 110.59 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1027.50 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
This season Maharashtra has surpassed UP in sugar production and has achieved top rank in India among sugar-producing states.
