Sugar recovery in Maharashtra has remained steady this season despite a decline in overall production, data from the state’s Sugar Commissionerate showed on Monday.
As of February 12, 2024, the sugar recovery rate in the state was 9.81%, compared to 9.82% at the same point last season, the data showed.
As of February 12, 2024, 768.5 lakh quintals (76.85 lakh tonnes) of sugar had been produced in the state, compared to 843.31 lakh quintals at the same period last season.
A total of 207 sugar mills participated in crushing operations this season, comprising 103 cooperative mills and 104 private mills. A total of 783.37 lakh tonnes of sugarcane has been crushed so far. In comparison, during the same period in the previous season, 210 sugar mills engaged crushing, producing 843.31 lakh quintals (85.86 lakh tons) of sugar by processing 858.59 lakh tons of sugarcane.
