Dharmapuri: Following the request of the cane farmers, the Dharmapuri District Cooperative Sugar mill Ltd (DDCSM) located at Palacode would start crushing within the next ten days, reports The New Indian Express.
The officials have stated that the mill would start crushing from December 21 and is expected to crush 1.70 lakh tonnes of cane this season.
Around 38,500 farmers are registered with the mill and during last season it had crushed over 1.13 lakh tonnes of cane. The mill is starting crushing earlier due to the surplus rainfall, improved cultivation and demand made by farmers’ organisations on this background.
P Venugopal, Cane Development Officer of the DDCSM said, “Though we have fixed a target to crush 1.70 lakh tonnes we are expecting to crush more cane than this.”
