Sugarcane crushing at the Chengalrayan Co-operative sugar mill located at Periyasevalai near Villupuram began on Wednesday, reports The Hindu.
The mill has set a target of crushing about four lakh tonnes of sugarcane grown in 13,820 acres of the area in the region during this crushing season.
Apart from this, the mill would produce 18 MW of power and out of this 3 MW will be used at the local level and the remaining 15 MW of power would be sold to Tangedco for distribution.
The special incentives of Rs 195 per tonne would be sent to 7000 cane farmers by the government who had supplied cane to the mill during the 2021-22 season.
