Mumbai: Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra will start on October 15. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the committee of ministers headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Shinde congratulated all stating that Maharashtra has ranked third in the world in terms of sugar production.
The crushing season is likely to be of 160 days and the farmers are likely to get Rs 3050 per tonne for a recovery of 10.25 basic recovery.
Sugar mills in the state have cleared 98% of FRP to the cane farmers for the ongoing crushing season. As many as 200 sugar mills had participated in the cane crushing operations during the ongoing crushing season and they have cleared FRP worth Rs 42,650 crore to the farmers. Maharashtra has emerged as a top sugar producer state in the country with a production of 137.36 lakh metric tonnes of sugar, surpassing Uttar Pradesh.
For the upcoming crushing season, around 203 sugar mills are likely to participate in the crushing operations and it is expected that around 138 lakh tonnes of sugar would be produced in the season. The area under cane cultivation has been increased to 14, 87,000 hectares and the average cane production is expected to be 95 tonnes per hectare.
