Pandavapura sugar factory that was defunct from the last four years began its operations from Tuesday. The mill has been given on lease to Murugesh Nirani.
By lighting the boiler, crushing of sugarcane was started at Pandavapura sugar factory. The day was marked by celebrating 54th birthday of Nirani who is also chairman of Nirani Sugars.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the mill was also performed in the presence of Suttur seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, Nirmalanandanatha Swami of Adichunchanagiri mutt, Siddalinga Swami of Siddaganga mutt, MP A Sumalatha and District in-charge Minister Narayana Gowda.
The factory was a lifeline for thousands of farmers. It got shut down after mill ran into losses. The mill will be on lease for the period of 40 years. The farmers were facing trouble due to the closure of the mill, but now the factory resume operation, it is likely to benefit the cane growers
