Sugarcane farmers that were attempting to block the Telangana Assembly demanding the reopening of the Nizamabad cooperative Sugar Factory (NCSF) were detained by the police. They were protesting outside the State Assembly premises.
The farmers under several banners have demanded the government to either revive the sugar mill or hand over it to the Farmers Produce Organisation (FPO). The farmers have aimed to cover 90 villages spread across eight mandals through their padyatra. Farmers are agitating for years to revive the sugar mill and have launched padyatra from Thurmanpally village of Nizamabad district to attract attention towards their demand.
