Mysuru: The sugarcane farmers have been asked to harvest the crop at the earliest to help the Forest department to spot the leopard roaming in the region which has caused two deaths within weeks in Mysuru, reports Hindustan Times.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K. V. Rajendra issued orders to farmers on Monday after the forest officials stated that the cane fields are hindering their operations to catch the wild cat. The forest officials launched the operations in the T Narasipura region of Mysuru on December 2 to catch the leopard.
“The sugarcane crops in the fields have become the main hindrance to our operation to catch the leopard. We have written to the revenue authorities to harvest the crop and they have responded positively,” said the chief conservator of forest Dr Malathi Priya.
